Neal Pionk’s overtime goal helps Winnipeg Jets beat Nashville Predators 3-2

Neal Pionk scored 55 seconds into overtime to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 3-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Nikolaj Ehlers and Adam Lowry also scored and Connor Hellebuyck made 18 saves for Winnipeg, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Josh Morrissey had two assists.

Cody Glass and Luke Evangelista scored and Juuse Saros made 30 saves for the Predators, who have lost their second straight game.

The Predators are now three points behind Winnipeg in the chase for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, despite Nashville playing three games less.

In overtime, Pionk responded to a Pierre-Luc Dubois field goal.

Just 34 seconds after Ehlers tied the game with a shot from the top of the left circle early in the third period, Evangelista caught the ball from low Tommy Novak and put He Le Baque’s shot into the net. Novak has scored in five consecutive games.

Lowry converted a rebound off Morrissey’s shot with 10:15 left in the third quarter.

Glass scored the first goal in the opening 5 minutes and 26 seconds. Cal Foote hit the traffic in front of the Winnipeg net with a shot from the right. Just outside the crease on the right, Glass slapped the bouncing puck to Helleback.

Philippe Tommasino also assisted Glass’s goal to extend his scoring streak to four games, a career high.

The Jets dominated Game 1, a 13-5 win over Nashville, which took three shots in the ensuing power play.
